We woke up early in the morning on July 4. We wanted to be the first ones to say “Happy Birthday, Son” to Dawid so we sneaked into his bedroom. He woke up and we sang “Happy Birthday” to him. This was just the beginning of celebration and ongoing singing of the birthday song throughout the day.
Dawid just loved singing “Happy Birthday” to himself! Auntie Connie cooked special pancakes for him for breakfast. Oh, yes, they were great!
Then we had an introduction to Southern culture we had not seen before. It was truly unique, we must say. Uncle Andrew brought an air gun to scare away the squirrels which had been eating all of the bird food and vegetables from the Tucker’s garden. We learned that we are pretty good at shooting air guns!
During lunch, it was finally time for birthday cake. It was a nice surprise and Dawid absolutely loved it! Ok, we all loved the piece of this delicious cake. Then another attraction was just around the corner. One of Dawid’s birthday presents was a remote control helicopter. It was great fun until one of the uncles flew it so high that the wind blew it away. Oh, well, Dawid has really good uncles, as he already has a new helicopter!
But the biggest surprise was yet to come. That evening, we went to see the Braves baseball game on the 4th of July. As Steve put it, “This is as American as it gets.” We really enjoyed it. At first we didn’t understand the rules (baseball is not a national Polish game). As we learned more about the rules, the game became more and more interesting, especially since the Braves were winning that night!
After the game, we saw the greatest fireworks show we had ever seen. We were so close to the fireworks display, small embers were almost falling on our faces! It was a wonderful day of celebration and we felt so proud to be a part of it.
Blessings,
Wojtek, Agnieszka and Dawid
